According to the report, the European Commission (EC) has submitted the result on investigations of safeguard measures on imported 26 steel products to the World Trade Organization (WTO), which was to conduct the import quota and increase the tariff based on different countries and quarter.
Before that, the EC merely imposed anti-dumping duties and countervailing duties on foreign steel products, and it didn''t implement the individual tariff quotas. For instance, the EC only set a tariff quota on hot-rolled coil imports but not set the individual import quota for each country.
Meantime, the EC explained that if the imported country''s own tariff quota was exhausted, it will be allowed to use the remaining tariff quota in the final quarter.
The preliminary safeguard measure would expire on February 4th, and the EC planned to conduct the confirmed defense measure for three years which will expire on July 16th, 2021.
